La gabarra también navega por el Manzanares: Desde Madrid, Soria y Granada para gozar de un día histórico
Athletic fans from all over Spain gather in Bilbao to celebrate historic day
Despite the well-defined borders of Bizkaia, the passion for colors knows no territorial boundaries. Today, a significant number of Athletic Club fans from different regions have gathered in Bilbao to enjoy a historic day. DEIA managed to interview some of these fans who wanted to share their love for the team with readers.
One of the fans, Patxi Irigoyen, a member of the Castilian Delegation of Athletic Club, expressed his excitement about being in Bilbao for this special occasion. Irigoyen, originally from Soria, highlighted the strong support for Athletic in his region and the close relationship between the local team, Numancia, and Athletic Club. He mentioned that the first Athletic fan club in Soria was established in 1996, and the current one, Peña Castellana del Athletic Club, was formed five or six years ago.
Another fan, Jorge Gavira from Madrid, shared his story of how his love for Athletic Club led him to Bilbao. Despite being from Madrid, Gavira felt a special connection to Bilbao and the team. He traveled over 500 kilometers to witness the celebration and the passage of the team’s boat, the gabarra.
Gemma Retamero, a young woman from Granada, also joined the festivities in Bilbao, expressing her strong identification with Athletic Club despite having no family ties to the team. She emphasized the sense of belonging and connection that drew her to be part of the celebration.
